Right choice BU exams to go objective
Bangalore: The objective is clear no more only essay-type answers in Bangalore University exams. From next academic year, the question pattern will be overhauled 50% will be objective type and the rest essay type.
Students will use OMR sheets for the first category and answer booklets for descriptive type questions. While evaluators will check the booklets , the OMR sheets will be scanned for assessment.
The key answers for objective type questions will be posted on the website the same day. The main aim is to bring in more transparency, faster evaluation of answer scripts and early declaration of results.
Well meeting principals in the first week of February to ensure they have enough time to implement it, BU vicechancellor N Prabhu Dev told TOI.
A lot of time is spent in correcting answer scripts as they all are essay type. Moreover, some entrance tests for higher studies are in MCQ format as well as online. We thought introducing objective type from the degree course will help students prepare better for them, he said.
The government has already introduced objective type questions for SSLC exam; the Common Entrance Test (CET) too has a similar pattern.
After students answer on the OMR sheet, there will be a 10-minute break followed by descriptive-type questions. The booklet for descriptive answers will comprise 25 pages with no additional sheets. The V-C said therell be a clear mention of number of lines allotted for each. This is to prevent students writing lengthy answers and ensure they answer to the point, he said.
Scanning of answer booklets: The BU plans to scan answer scripts to have a back-up and avoid insertions of pages or losing them. Were looking at whether we can scan 20 lakh answer scripts at the exam centre or digitise them. Were still checking to see if its feasible and the cost involved. The preliminary response indicates its possible, he said. These will be hosted on a server of the National Informatics Centre or other government agencies at minimum or no cost .
MULTIPLE OBJECTIVES
Multiple Choice Questions prepare students for entrance tests for higher studies Answer booklet will not have blank pages but only horizontal lines MCQ format will help quick evaluation and early results.
