IIM-Ranchi set to begin classes this June-July
Ranchi: It’s official now. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ranchi will soon become a reality. Classes are scheduled to begin from June-July this year. This will be the first institute among the six new IIMs announced by the Union HRD ministry in 2006 to begin classes.
After initial hiccups over land and infrastructural developments in the state, a formal announcement was made in this regard by the newly appointed chairman of the board of directors, R C Bhargava, who is also the chairman of the Maruti Udyog Pvt Ltd, on Friday.
“It’s a great day for Jharkhand. Classes for the new academic session will be organized in consultation with IIM-Calcutta, which is one of the oldest premier management institutes,” Bhargava said. State HRD secretary Mridula Sinha, IIM-Calcutta director Shekher Choudhary and IIM-Calcutta convener B B Chakraborty were also present.
As of now, teachers will hold classes in the newly built swanky Suchana Bhavan. Accommodation arrangements for boys and girls would be made at the Administrative Training Institute hostel nearby. “If needed, we may take over the newly constructed administrative building after the National Games are over,” Bhargava said.
Bhargava said there will be no compromise on education and that faculties from IIM-Calcutta will take few classes. “If needed, audio-visual facilities would also be installed to provide lectures and seminars. By the last week of February, we will bring out advertisements on enrolment procedures. Students, who have cleared the Common Admission Test-2009 to take admission in the 2010 session, with 95 percent and above would be eligible for the course,” he added.
