IIM-A readies for final placements; anxiety rises
Ahmedabad: The anxiety quotient is on a high at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) campus that is getting ready for the final placements to begin in a week. Students of the PGP batch of 2008-10 are settling down for dorm discussions and dry-cleaning of uniforms.
Hopes are high this time especially with the summer placement for the junior batch ending in a record time of four days and the signs of recession receding slowly. The final placement process for the batch of close to 300 students will begin on February 13.
The batch of this year is the biggest batch ever going to placements. The students are also cautious because of the new cohort-based placement system, being introduced for the first time. “The placement season is all set to start. The new cohort-based placement system will begin from the coming Saturday. The placement process has been divided into seven to eight weekends, each weekend dedicated to three to four cohorts. These cohorts are a group of companies offering similar roles that are grouped together and the interviews are conducted together,” said Himanshu Nima, the co-ordinator of placement committee.
“Which cohort will be conducted on which weekend has been decided after consultation with the students and gathering their preferences,” he added.
The cohort placement system was also explained to the recruiters in a summit that the IIM-A placement committee held in November where over 60 regular recruiters were invited.
The process was introduced to essentially aim at a better match-making process, ensuring a better fit between the students and the firms. The system will also allow more time to the recruiters per student.
