IIM-A final placements to begin on Saturday

Ahmedabad: The smiles are back this year with placement season all set to start this weekend at Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad. With the final placement process setting off for the 300 students of post graduate programme from Saturday, the new campus is bustling with activity.

Participants of the one-year Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPX) have been hearing some good news as the placement process for the batch of 2010 is on. With close to 30 offers almost accepted, the batch of 80 is celebrating.

“Looks like it is a good season for us. After last year, the uncertainty was high. But things are looking good for now. The packages that are being offered have been balanced and are definitely bringing a decent value addition to the salaries from which most of came from,” said a source from the institute. The salaries offered range from Rs 30 lakh to 60 lakh per annum right now.

“The roles offered are challenging. To our surprise, the IT firms have returned and offering positions abroad. Consulting firms like McKenzie are recruiting in higher numbers that last year. With close to 30 offers made and accepted, there are several other in the pipe line,” said another source.

The placement process for the PGPX students is longer and the rounds of interviews happen over several meetings, including on-site visits in many cases. Companies of Ahmedabad have still not have shown interest, but the batch is hoping that as the placement season comes to an end and the batch ends by March, even the local companies will show interest.
