FINAL PLACEMENTS

Ace recruiters return to IIM-A

Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey Pick 8 Each On Day 1

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Ahmedabad: Things were looking up at the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIMA ) on Saturday as regular recruiters returned to the campus after skipping placements last year on account of the global meltdown.

Ace recruiters from international investment banks, global strategy consulting, global niche consulting and private equity/venture capital were the first to grab the best heads as the final placement season began on Saturday.

On the first day of the first cluster under the new cohortbased system, Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey & Co gave out eight offers each which included pre-placement offers too. These were the only ones declared by the institute on the first day.

Regulars at IIM-A , investment banks like Bank of America and Merrill Lynch also returned to the campus this year. Bain & Co, and Goldman Sachs were among the recruiters on Day 1.

In the new placement process for the batch of 2010, companies that offer similar roles, profiles, salaries and locations are grouped together into individual cohorts. Several cohorts together make a cluster, interviews for which are conducted over a selected weekend, said a member of the student-run Placement Committee of the institute.

The new process allowed recruiters to interact with students for a longer duration. We received positive feedback from the recruiters about the new process. We are continuously evaluating the new process for fine tuning the process for subsequent clusters based on the feedback of the recruiters, said the committee member.

The total number of offers made by corporates is, however, yet to be released by the institute, as the recruitment process is on and will only be completed for this cluster by Sunday.

An official from the Boston Consulting Group said, We are very happy with the new process. We were able to select excellent candidates.

Saral Mukherjee, the faculty in-charge of the placement process of the students, said, As today was the first time the cohort-based system was implemented , we were a little apprehensive . However, as the day progressed , the relaxed atmosphere in and around the interview rooms was a pointer that we have moved in the right direction. The recruiters have expressed satisfaction with the new process.
