4 institutions in city move HC against AICTE

Pune: Admissions to engineering and MBA/MMS courses in the state are in for some more delay as four Pune-based institutions on Wednesday filed a petition in the Bombay high court challenging the All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE) move to withhold their letters of approval (LOAs) to start new colleges from 2010-11.

The council had named these institutions in the list of the newly approved colleges for the 2010-11 academic year, which was released on June 14 and 29. However, it has now withheld LOAs on the grounds of ‘incomplete data’.

The institutions which moved the HC are: Progressive Education Society’s Modern Institute of Business Management; Pune Vidyarthi Griha’s Institute of Management; Shri Ramchandra College of Engineering, Lonikand; and the Purandar College of Engineering and Management Research, Pisoli, near Hadapsar.

“We have filed the petition today (Wednesday) and the same will be mentioned before the bench on Thursday. We hope the petition gets listed for hearing either on July 23 or 26,” said Anil V Anturkar, advocate for the petitioner-institutions.
