IIM-A call giving you jitters? Help is just a mail away

Premier B-School Students Reach Out To Aspirants

Ahmedabad: If an interview call from the ace business school of the country is making you jittery, help is only an email away.

The help is coming from the present students of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). After all, who would know the jitters better than the batch of 2009-11 which went through this phase only an year ago.

The Students’ Affairs Council of IIMA has launched an initiative where the present students are extending help to those vying to secure a seat in the prestigious institute.

Armed with a web page and an email Id, the students’ council is all set to clarify doubts, answer questions and even personally counsel the aspirants.

“We know exactly what goes through one’s mind when preparing for CAT and then securing admission into the best management schools in the country. The pressure is higher when you get the interview call. You know the date of the interview, but do not know what is coming your way,” said Glen D’Silva, a member of the students’ council.

“The students’ council felt there was a need to provide help to the aspirants and, therefore, decided to introduce the initiative from this year. The aspirants can send in their queries. We will club the common questions, the answers to which will be posted on the blog. If there are specific queries, personalized emails can be sent and if there is still some doubt left, and the applicant wants to talk to a specific student, there is also an option of personal counselling,” said D’Silva.

When asked what kind of questions usually arise, D’Silva said, “There could be operational issues, dress code, interview style, life on campus and many more. There could also be specific things like a computer engineer or a mechanical engineering wanting to get in touch with a senior with the same engineering degree and finding out how to go about the interview.”

There have been students on campus taking up these kind of activities on individual level, like blogging or being a resource for an online portal for management school aspirants. There also some who visit the local CAT coaching institutes for lectures or counselling. But this is an initiative of the student community at large and involves volunteers from among the students.
