Want your CAT score re-evaluated? File RTI
Ahmedabad: The Right to Information Act seems to be the only hope for candidates not happy with their scores in Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009. Convenor of CAT committee, a pan-IIM body, Satish Deodhar told a press conference on Wednesday that re-evaluation of CAT scores was possible only if candidates asked for their score details under RTI.
Although Deodhar said there was nothing wrong in the CAT 2009 scores, the forthcoming IIM directors’ meet might review this online test. Around 2.17 lakh candidates took the first online CAT this year in the country.
“We cannot allow students to take a peek into their test papers. It is not done in any test, be it entrance test or university papers. But, for students who file RTI applications to clear their doubts about the scores, we can ask Prometric to conduct a re-evaluation. The system has been put in place for that,” Deodhar said.
About Prometric continuing the contract for online tests, he said, “The decision of taking the test online and choosing the agency was done by the directors of the IIMs collectively. The fate of the online test and Prometric remains with them. The upcoming directors’ meeting may review CAT 2009.”
“The raw scores were not provided to us by Prometric. We have only received the normalised score and the percentile, both of which we have provided to the candidates,” said Deodhar. “Another reason why we will not let candidates take a look at their papers is that will increase the possibility of putting the questions of CAT 2009 in public domain. the CAT questions are intellectual property of the IIMs and with the online version of the test we will be able to keep them secret,” he added.
On being asked if CAT 2009 was a success, Deodhar said, “I personally feel online testing is the way ahead”. |
