Jobs bloom at IIM-A this year
Ahmedabad: Be it the return of the investment banks, increase in the average salaries offered or the Indian banks taking the place of the star recruiters during campus placements at IIM-A, the verdict is clear. The traces of the downturn seem to have been wiped away.
As the placement process drew to a close, the mood of the batch 2008-10 was upbeat. IBanks, that had gone missing last year, returned in full swing. The highest salary offered to a student is a whopping Rs 1.4 crore by Deutsche Bank, also an IBank. The other I-Banks that participated this year, include Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, UBS and Citigroup that extended preplacement offers (PPOs) and JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, HSBC and Nomura that participated in finals placements.
Yes Bank and ICICI Bank made 13 offers each and were the top recruiters. With 53 per cent of the batch eligible for lateral placements, more than 40 firms participated in the process and extended more than 100 offers, a four-fold increase over last year.
For a batch of 289 students, 110 firms participated, laterals and final placement put together. The institute had introduced the Cohort-based placement process for the first time.
International offers from Goldman Sachs focused on multiple roles in London while Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and Deutsche Bank offered roles across Asia Pacific. Cybage and Syntel Inc. made offers in US and P&G extended offers for Singapore, like last year.
Biz dreams for some:
Five students opted out of the placement process to become entrepreneurs. IIMA is among the only campus to offer a placement holiday to its students.
