Seek CAT info from Prometric, says IIM-A

Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and its CAT Centre only have the scaled scores of the candidates and the percentiles calculated on the basis of these scores and nothing else.

Several students had sought clarification on their absolute CAT scores without the scaling from IIM-A.

The institute has now asked the candidates to seek further information straight from Prometric, the international agency that conducted the first ever online CAT in December and January.

The letter that the institute’s public information officer, KS Joshi, has sent to the candidates, says, “IIMs have assigned the technical job of delivery of CAT and scoring to Prometric. We only have scaled scores and percentiles which have been communicated to all candidates through official CAT website. CAT Centre itself does not have any other records or information you seek.”

Further the letter says, “However, to facilitate quick communication on the matter, we have made a formal arrangement to respond through candidate care service. Prometric will give an appropriate response on behalf of IIMs.”

The candidates have been provided an e-mail id through which they can contact Prometric by mentioning ‘RTI-CAT registration number’ in the subject window.

“We can only provide the information that we have. We have asked Prometric to provide information on our behalf,” said professor Satish Deodhar, the convenor of the CAT Committee. One of the candidates who has received the letter told TOI, “The test I took was of the IIM and thus I posted the question to the institute. Now the institute is asking me to get in touch with Prometric. With RTI, IIM was time-bound to reply to my questions. But Prometric is not time-bound.”

Another candidate said, “Till three days ago, Prometric did not respond to any of our queries. In reply to one of the previous mails, they said, this was the final result and no further investigation can be taken up.”
