UoP, Gottingen University to have joint advisory board
Pune: The University of Pune (UoP) and the Gottingen University, Germany have agreed to set up a joint advisory board for cooperation in academic and research activities.
“The thrust will be on areas such as life sciences, agriculture and rural agro-economy, to begin with,” UoP’s officiating vice-chancellor (V-C) Arun Adsool told TOI.
Adsool recently undertook a three-day tour of Gottingen University, which ranks among the oldest varsities in Germany (established in 1737) and is credited with having produced 44 Nobel laureates. The varsity is located in the state of Lower Saxony, home of car maker Volkswagen.
Adsool said, “The joint board intends to execute several key initiatives, including joint masters and Ph.D programmes, besides multi-lateral cooperation in research as well as applied vocational programmes involving, among others, the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics; the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune; the National Centre for Cell Sciences and the National Chemical Laboratory.”
Similarly, funding of summer scholarship programmes for German students to study at the UoP and research ties with UoP-affiliated colleges are other activities on the agenda, Adsool said.
He said the initiatives agreed upon by the two universities will be put up before R K Shevgaonkar, the incoming new V-C of the UoP, by the end of March for the latter’s formal approval. |
