IIIT seats only for rural students
Hyderabad: Seventy percent of seats under government quota in Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) or AP IIITs will now be open only to students who study in rural government schools or government residential schools for at least three years.
At an executive council meeting of the university, officials decided that students who want to apply under government quota should have studied for three years in rural government schools, any time between class VI and class X. “There are complaints that students from urban private schools are applying for admissions in AP IIITs by doing just their class X from a rural government school. We want to prevent such students from getting admissions,” said, S Satyanarayana, registrar, RGUKT.
The students will now have to produce proof of their three year study in rural schools. As many as 6,000 seats are available in the three IIITs.
