CAT stars gear up for entry into IIM
INTERVIEWS FOR B-SCHOOL BEGIN
Ahmedabad: It’s a dream come true for some of the candidates of Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009 from the city. They got a step closer to realising their place among the best of the brains of the country at the Indian Institute of Management,Ahmedabad (IIMA). With the admission process of IIM-A rolled out, the interviews are being conducted in various centres across the country. The interviews in Ahmedabad will be conducted on March 29 and March 30, the process for which began from March 14.
“IIM-A has started the interview process. We have invited 960 candidates for 385 seats for the 2010-12 batch,” said professor Diptesh Ghosh, the admissions chair for post graduate programme in management (PGP).
There were a total of 93,055 candidates, who has crossed the first threshold for admission in IIM-A. These included 71,904 general category candidates, 11,407 noncreamy OBC candidates, 7,526 SC candidates, 1,822 ST candidates, and 396 disabled category candidates.Of this the admissions committee declared a list of 960, sending them calls for interviews.
Of the candidates,there are 562 candidates of general category who have over 96.1 percentile in each section and had a 99 percentile overall. Besides that, the candidate should have scored at least 70 per cent marks in both Class 10 and Class 12.
The 200 non-creamy OBC category candidates had percentiles over 89 in each section and over 94 percentile overall. The 114 SC category candidates had over 80 percentile in each section and over 85 percentile overall. The 53 ST category candidates in the shortlist have over 67 percentile in each section and over 80 percentile overall. The 31 disabled category candidates had over 67 sectional percentile and over 80 overall percentile.
The city boys who have secured an interview call from IIM-A are headed for their books. Mayank Gupta said, “Being an engineering student I do not have much to talk about management studies but I am revising important things from my course. I am also working on my writing skills because of the essay that we are supposed to write after the personal interview.”
Jalaj Desai, another city boy who has bagged call from IIM-A, besides interview call from IIMCalcutta, said, “I am working on questions like career goal, future plan and achievements in school. Though there is no group discussion at IIM-A but there will be one at IIM-C, for which I am keeping myself abreast with the latest happenings.”
