FILM COURSE LAUNCHED - After IIM, MICA goes filmy
Ahmedabad: The appetite for Bollywood seems to be increasing in the ace management schools in the city. After IIM-A launched a course on Indian film industry, Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA) has become the second institute to go the Bollywood way.
The current batch of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) of MICA has introduced the course Business of Film Making for students pursuing Post Graduate Programme in Entrepreneurship in Media and Communications (PGPEMC ).On Thursday, the batch had Rajat Barjatya, managing director of Rajshri Media as their guest faculty.
He talked about his venture into new media and how he brought about a revolution in the film industry by distributing films on the internet. He also gave an gave an overview of the rise in use of digital media in the Indian film industry, said Hiral Ravatia, a student. The course concentrates on the business aspect of filmmaking. It gives a holistic perspective of the industry, including marketing, finance and distribution, advanced film technologies and management of innovative ventures.We have world class institutes teaching technique of filmmaking, but there is hardly any formal education for marketing, selling films as a business model, said professor Gautam Jain, faculty co-ordinator of MICA-EDC.
Faculty who have come on campus include Kandaswamy Bharthan, executive producer of Chennai based Kavithalayaa Films, Anand Kurian, ad filmmaker, among others. |
