IIM-A 45TH ANNUAL CONVOCATION
‘Important institutions deserve special attention’
Ahmedabad: Louis Kahn Plaza at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) came alive amid flashing cameras and thundering applause on Saturday evening, as the batch of 2008-10 pursuing the flagship Post-Graduate Programme in Management, received their diplomas.
The 45th annual convocation of IIM-A had C Rangarajan, former faculty and now the chairman of Economic A d - visory Council to prime minister, as the chief guest.
In his address to the graduating students, Rangarajan said that modern management must be viewed as dynamic process of constantly seeking to align a firm’s internal resources w i t h the external environment.
On reshaping of the regulatory framework, Rangarajan said, “The regulatory framework should cover all segments of the financial markets. The rigour or regulation must be uniform among all segments to avoid the ‘regulatory arbitrage’.”
“Systematically important financial institutions should receive special attention,” he said. On the impact of globalisation, he said, “The major concern is that globalisation leads to a more inequitous distribution of income among countries and within countries, globalisation leads to loss of national sovereignty and the countries are finding it increasingly difficult to follow independent domestic policies.”
“To deal with this phenomenon, we must understand the gains and losses, the risks as well as rewards. globalisation spreads both prosperity and distress,” he said.
The convocation was for 283 students pursuing their PGP in Management, 80 participants of Post-Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPX), 25 participants of Public Management and Policy (PMP) and 17 students of the fellowship programme. In all, 425 graduating students received diplomas and titles at the convocation. Students were also awarded for their scholastic performance from different PGP programmes.
Also present at the ceremony were chairman of IIM-A Governing Council Vijaypat Singhania, director of the institute Samir Barua, other board of governors and faculty members. |
