Some IIM-A grads still await jobs
NOT SO LUCKY
Ahmedabad: Graduates from IIM-A’s post graduate programme for executives (PGPX) have grabbed a variety of plum posts. But like the batch of 2009, this year too, there are over 10 participants in IIM-A’s who have not been placed yet. This despite the fact that the salaries this time around have been better. PGPX follows a process of ‘rolling’ placement, unlike the fixed duration placements for entry-level programs. Of the batch of 2010, there are five participants, who opted out of placement to started their own businesses in energy, services, and information and technology areas. This is the highest number of participants opting out of placements from PGPX till now.
“Placement of individuals with considerable prior experience is always a challenge, particularly when such experience is to be suitably rewarded in terms of compensation and nature of job,” said professor Samir Barua, talking about the course in the convocation ceremony on Saturday. Professor Saral Mukherjee, placement chairperson at IIM-A, said, “We are happy to note that firms have increasingly started to look at IIM-A for filling up senior management-level positions. It shows awareness among recruiter community that there is more to campus recruitment than entry-level hiring.” |
