IIM-A puts courses under scanner
Public Policy Course Scrapped From This Year
Ahmedabad: While focusing on tie-ups with foreign universities on the one hand, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), has also started reviewing the relevance of some of its courses.
In fact, Post Graduate Programme for Public Policy Management (PGP-PMP) has already been axed. The third batch of the course, that received diplomas on Saturday during the 45th convocation ceremony at the institute, was the last.
IIM-A director professor Samir Barua said in his convocation speech, “The institute has completed the third offering of PGPPMP. This fulfils our commitment to the government. While there is a clear need for improving public policy-making, management of public institutions and the government itself, the demand for such a programme and the demand for graduates from such a programme appears to be limited. The experience of the last three years is being reviewed.” The other courses that will be reviewed are the Post Graduate Programme in Agribusiness Management and Post Graduate Programme for Executives.
“The institute has received proposals from foreign academic institutions for cross border collaborations with their doctoral programmes. This possibility will be explored. There is also a need to explore the feasibility of opening the programme to external candidates from the practising world,”Barua added. The institute is also examining the possibility of attracting participants from other countries to the four month Faculty Development Programme that the institute has been offering for close to 25 years. |
