PGCET
Overview
The Central Post Graduate Admission Committee (CPAC) was constituted vide the Government order No. ED/49/TEC/2005, dated 22-03-2005 as the State Agency to oversee smooth conduct of admissions to post graduate courses in the State of Karnataka. The Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum has been entrusted by the Government order no.ED/89/TEC/2010 dated: 26-04-2010 to conduct the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) - 2010 in the State of Karnataka for admission to MBA Course.
The Karnataka PGCET - 2010 is being conducted for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admission to the First year / First semester of Full Time and Part Time courses in Master of Business Administration in Government Colleges, University Departments and the Private Unaided Institutions affiliated to the following Universities- Bangalore, Gulbarga, Karnataka, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Davangere, Bijapur Women’s University and Visvesvaraya Technological University, within the State of Karnataka for the academic year 2010-2011.
Karnataka candidates are eligible for both government seats (Category A seats i.e. 100% seats in Government colleges & University Departments and 50% of total intake in Private Unaided Institutions) and Management seats (Category B seats i.e. seats other than Government seat) surrendered by Private Unaided Institutions.
Non-Karnataka candidates are eligible for those seats available against management seats (Category B seats) of Private Unaided Institutions.
Admissions are made in accordance with the Gazette Notification of Karnataka State Government, 2005 (‘G.O.’ in short) as amended from time to time and therefore the details and instructions contained in this Brochure are subject to the said G.O. In case of any discrepancy, the relevant G.O. shall prevail.
Eligibility
Basic Qualification
Candidates who have passed any undergraduate examination with requisite marks.
Candidates who have appeared for the final year examination are also eligible to apply for the PGCET-
2010. However, they shall submit the Marks cards on or before 31-07-2010, the last date specified by
PGCET
Cell.
MBA (Full-time)
Admission to Master of Business Administration course shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor Degree examination with not less than fifty percent of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC/ST and Category-I, the aggregate percentage of marks of all the years of the qualifying examinations shall not be less than forty-five percent.
MBA (Part-time)
The candidate applying for Part-Time MBA course, in addition to satisfying the academic eligibility criteria specified for Full-Time MBA Course, must have worked for not less than three years (after qualifying the examination and experience up to the date of notification-17-05-2010) in an establishment and must be working in an organization situated within a radial distance of 40 km from the institution in which the candidate seeks admission.
Important Notes
The aggregate percentage of marks of the course of the qualifying examination shall be calculated as
follows.Aggregate percentage of marks =
Sum of the maximum marks of all the subjects of all the years/semesters
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X 100
Sum of the marks scored by the candidate in all the subjects of all the years/semesters
No rounding off of percentage is permitted (even if a general merit candidate has an aggregate
percentage of marks of 49.99, the candidate is not eligible for the course).
MBA - Infrastructure Management (FT)
Course is open for,
Candidates who have passed the prescribed Qualifying Examinations as specified in Annexure – 5 with not
less than 50% of the marks in aggregate of all the semesters/ years of the degree examination
(cumulative sum of secured marks of all the semesters / years divided by the sum of the maximum
marks). However, in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and CAT-1, marks shall not be less than
45%.
Candidates who have appeared for the qualifying examination and expecting the result within the last date
as prescribed by the PGCET cell.
Admission
procedure
The written test will be conducted for MBA course between 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM.
For both Karnataka & Non-Karnataka Students admission will be based solely on performance in written
test (PGCET), then followed by counseling for seat selection as per merit.
How to Apply
The application can be obtained on payment of Rs. 600/- ( Rs 300/- in case of Karnataka SC/ ST and Cat-I, on production of documentary proof) in the form of DD only, drawn in favour of the Member Secretary, CPAC payable at Belgaum.

Paper Pattern
Question Paper is based on the syllabus for the Common Entrance Test with the following guidelines:
The Common Entrance Test will be of two hours duration.
Question Paper will be for a maximum of 100 marks.
The Question Paper will contain objective type questions only. The question paper will contain 100
questions of One Mark each, covering the full syllabus uniformly, giving equal weightage to all the topics
in the syllabus.
All questions shall be compulsory.
There will be no “Negative Marking” for wrong answers.
