Overview
TISS was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata
Graduate School of Social Work. The first school of
social work in India, TISS was a pioneering effort,
characteristic of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT).
While responding to the changing needs of the social
and educational system in the country, the Institute
has gone far beyond the initial concern of social work
education. Thus, what started as a small institution
offering a post-graduate diploma in Social Work, grew
into Deemed University and, as a result, diversified
its activities.
Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) offers a two
year masters program of M.A. in Human Resources Management
and Labour Relations. The selection process is of 200
marks in all. It consists of an Objective Test of 70
Marks which includes numerical ability, analytical ability,
socio-economic awareness, business knowledge and logical
reasoning of 90 minutes duration. A Group Discussion
of 30 Marks aiming to assess the candidate’s knowledge
about contemporary issues and sensitivity to social
issues. The time allotted is 25 minutes. A Personal
Interview of 75 Marks after a general candidate secures
a minimum combined score of 43 marks (35 marks for SCs
and ST) in the Objective Test. The academic background
is given a weightage of 25 Marks. The candidate is also
expected to be acquainted with the program for which
he/she has applied for, as questions may be asked on
the topic during the PI.

formal education) in any discipline with minimum aggregate
