Admission Procedure

Instructions for applying to PGDIM

Candidates should have Bachelor's Degree with First Division in any branch of Engineering / Technology   (5% concession in case of SC/ST/PD candidates).

 Candidates should take up the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the IIMs in order to apply for   the Programs.

 Candidates should give their preferences while choosing the courses they want to apply to. The   preferences cannot be changed after submitting the application.

 The sponsored candidates are required to have at least 2 years of relevant experience after graduation in   Engineering / Technology as on 31st March ,2009.Sponsored candidates are NOT required to give the   Common Admissions Test conducted by IIMs.

 Candidates who are currently in their final year of Engineering/Technology degree can also   apply. They   are required to:

- Complete their examination, viva voce etc, by June 20, 2009.

- Submit the final year mark-sheet and provisional certificate by September 30, 2009.

- The final results should indicate First Division (5% concession in case of SC/ST/PD candidates), else the   admission to the program stands withdrawn.

 Candidates should convert CGPA into appropriate percentage.

 Duration of work experience specified, if any, should be after graduation.

 Reservation for SC/ST/PD candidates is as per the Government of India rules. In addition reservation for   OBC candidates belonging to the “Non-Creamy Layer” is being implemented in a phased manner.

 Certificates in support of SC/ST/PD/OBC Non-Creamy Layer, if applicable to be produced.

 The Application Fee is Rs.1000 (Rs 500 in case of SC/ST/PD candidates with attested certificate of   caste/disability)

- The Application Fee is to be deposited with any branch of SBI with the prescribed Challan downloadable   from the payment details page along with the necessary transaction charges.

- The details of the payment of fees are to be provided to complete the filling up of the application form.

- The fees cannot be transferred online to the A/C No provided. It has to be physically deposited in any of   the branches of SBI.

 Applicants should send the photocopies of the following

- SSC / Matriculation Certificate (support of age).

- Degree certificate or certificate stating percentage of marks obtained in the pre-final / final year   examination, as applicable.

- Certificate in Support of Other Backward Caste/ Scheduled caste / Tribe / Physically Disabled, if applicable.

 Once CAT results are out, the candidates are requested to submit the CAT score online without any delay.

 it photocopy of CAT score card by registered post only, and should reach NITIE on or before January 21,   2009.

 Original CAT score and call letter would be required at the time of Group Discussion / Personal Interview to   be held at NITIE.

Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering (PGDIE)

Admission Procedure

Selection

- All engineering students with a first class degree and with a GATE score of 85 percentile and above are   eligible to apply for the PGDIE programme. Keeping in view the requirements of effective communications   skills in the contemporary world, NITIE uses Group Discussions and Personal Interviews as parts of the   admissions test procedure. The selection criteria are based on the combination of the GATE percentile   score, Group Discussion, and Interview scores with appropriate weightage given for each.

Fee:

- Approximately Rs.93,000/-

Fellow Admission

Eligibility

Direct Candidates:

- Master’s Degree or equivalent with minimum first class in Engineering / Technology / Pure Science /   Business Management or Administration / Commerce / Social Science / Humanities/Biological Science.

- Final year Student appearing for the Master’s Degree Examination in Engineering / Technology / Pure   Science / Business Management or Administration / Commerce / Social Science / Humanities/ Biological   Science can also apply. Such candidate if selected will be provisionally admitted provided they complete all   requirements for obtaining their master’s degree before 30 June. The admission of these candidates will   remain provisional until they produce the mark sheet proving that they satisfy the eligibility criteria. The   dead line for submitting the final year mark sheet is 31 Dec.

External and Sponsored Candidates:

- The external candidate should have a minimum of 2 years work experience in   industry/academia/government and they must produce a “No Objection Certificate” from their employing   organisations along with an undertaking that arrangements, as per the requirement of and to the   satisfaction of NITIE, will be made by the organisation to enable the candidate to pursue the fellow   programme.

- Candidates from both (Direct / External) categories should earn their course credit requirement by   undergoing one-year full time course work. The Research committee shall keep in mind the objective and   the academic activities of the institute while selecting candidates for Fellow Programme.

- Reservation for SC/ST/PD Category is as per Government of India Rules.

Application Procedure:

- The application shall be made in the prescribed form available with the Institute. Attested copies of all the   necessary certificates and testimonials are to be attached with the application. The candidate must submit a   write-up of about 500 words on the area of research interest (tentative research proposal) along with   his/her application.

Selection Criteria:

Selection for the Fellow Programme will be on the basis of the following criteria:

- Academic qualification and work experience

- Tentative research proposal and its presentation before the selection committee

- Personal interview

- The decision of the selection committee regarding admission shall be final. Communication will be sent only   to the selected candidates. The Institute will not entertain any queries or correspondence in respect of   those not selected.
