PreSNAP - 0802 EXAM ANALYSIS

Snapping ‘The SNAP after The CAT’! SNAP another prestigious MBA entrance exclusive to The Symbiosis Group which is fast acquiring a status symbol. Housing a number of specializations under one roof, you do not have to travel very far to be an MBA in either Finance, or Business Management, or Mass Communication to name just a few. The prestigious institutions falling under this group are SIBM, SCMHRD, SIMC, SIIB, SIMS, SITM, SCIT, SIOM and SIHS.

The SNAP Entrance requires a student to be thorough in English grammar and its usage as many questions in the Verbal Ability section are solely based on the rules of the English language. You should be perfect in sentence correction and syntax.

Being familiar with the rules governing Sentence building will be helpful even in the Quantitative Ability Section and in the Reasoning Ability section. There are sums from the above sections where the given data has to be deciphered and interpreted.

The paper consisted of 150 questions and was divided into four sections.

The overall difficulty level of this paper was average.

Some of the New Highlights in the Paper :

Along with English usage questions, Verbal Reasoning questions were also included in Verbal Ability    Section.
The Reasoning Ability Section had each question of two marks and the questions were reduced to 30.
The Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation Sections were clubbed together in a single section like the    previous year's paper.

A section-wise analysis will give you a fair picture of your performance and if you feel that you have underperformed, then now is the time to get into the groove. The final SNAP is still a long way off but in keeping a steady pace, you will not find yourself pressurized at the fag end.

An overall attempt of 110 + with 80% accuracy will fetch a good score.

SECTIONAL BREAK-UP

Section I: Verbal Ability

Two Reading Comprehension passages formed the first part of the paper. All the questions were directly related to the passage and did not drain your brain. You had a few active grey cells left over to deal with the other sections as well.

‘Do not fly off the handle and throw down the gauntlet but keep a weather eye open and not to hum and haw over a storm in a teacup!’ Cool ain’t? That is how you build up on your phrases by using them in sentences in your day to day conversation.

Making sense out of illogically arranged sentences is an inherent quality. This quality can be developed only through keen observation skills.

Relationships between pairs of words need a good vocabulary of words in your mental dictionary. This is possible only when you read and read and read without feeling exhausted and every reading gives you exhilaration!

The remaining questions which made up this section were ‘Fill in the blanks’, ‘Antonyms and Synonyms’ and ‘appropriate usage of articles and phrase in blanks’. The Antonyms and Synonyms were a wee bit tough but again a lot of reading can help you get over this difficulty.

The section was difficult for the first timers but for a seasoned test taker, was of average difficulty level.

The questions in the Verbal Ability section are as follows:

Section II: Reasoning Ability

Analytical Reasoning involves an arbitrary set of conditions, such as people standing in a row or choosing items from a menu, or scheduling tours. On the basis of the statements given, you make a deduction about these relationships. It may be helpful to draw rough diagrams and simple charts while attempting to answer these questions.

In Logical Reasoning questions, you are presented with an argument or an explanation which you are asked to analyze. You may be asked to describe the argument, draw conclusions from it, attack or defend it, or just find the assumption that lies behind it. No knowledge of formal logic is required. While reading the passages, statements or conversation, you must avoid being influenced by your own personal opinions. It may be helpful to draw rough diagrams or simple charts in attempting to answer the questions.

The questions in the Reasoning Ability section are as follows:

Section III: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

This section tests your basic understanding of arithmetic, algebra and geometry. Knowledge of more advanced mathematics is not required. Most of the questions in the Quantitative Ability section are of high school level and are intended to just show how well you understand elementary mathematics.

The Data Interpretation section is a test of interpretation of graphs, charts and tables. Though most of these questions are not tough, they will require you to analyze the question in detail.

The difficulty level of Quantitative Ability section was average.

Conventionally, more stress is given to Arithmetic and Alegebra. The ideal approach for such a paper is to go by the answer options i.e. using deductive logic to maximize the attempts.

The questions in the Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section are as follows:

Section IV: General Awareness

This section was like filter coffee, a smooth blend of Current Affairs with Static General Knowledge combined together in equal proportion.

Those who have made use of the Career Forum General Knowledge Handbook stand to gain in this section.

If you are not very confident in this section, it is advisable to read the questions from previous year’s PreSNAP papers. You can easily judge the types of questions appearing and which topic you should be practicing more.
